Celebrate the arrival of autumn with this party on Friday featuring one of the top Spanish electronic music producers of the moment and two of Shanghai’s hottest DJs. White Party is coming to Paramount Club on September 21 with Dani Masi, one of the hottest artists from Spain currently. Alongside Masi will be DJ Leo Chiodaroli. Chiodaroli is a Brazilian DJ and producer with releases reaching number two on the Beatport charts, and he has performed at Storm Festival and some of Shanghai’s best clubs. DJ Casio will also be starring that evening. He is one of Shanghai’s most active independent music artists, and his live sets are rich with on-the-spot control and fantastic creativity. Shalanaya, Shanghai’s very own outdoor rave, is back in September featuring four days of nonstop music, art, performances, and wellness workshops. Shalanaya brings both local and international artists who will be playing nonstop music on two stages. The Main Stage will be blasting psytrance, techno, and tech-house, and the Chillout Stage relaxes with ambient, psybient, tribal, and world music. At the same time, expect an abundance of workshops, fire performances, live bands, art installations, handicraft markets, drum circles, impromptu jamming, and a climbing dome. Drink a beer created one by one of the world’s top chefs, for free, at the Ala Beer Festival happening this Friday to Sunday, September 21 to 23. The inaugural event is giving away 1,500 bottles of Estrella Damn Inedit each day, a Spanish beer brewed in collaboration with Ferran Adria, chef of the former three-Michelin-star restaurant El Bulli. Craft beers from the US, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, Italy, England, Scotland, China, and more will also be available at the festival, which you can enjoy with gourmet food. Entry to Ala Beer Festival is free, and sign up to receive free flow beer from 5pm to 6pm on Saturday.

THREE of a Kind is a trio formed by French gypsy guitar player Etienne JEANNE who has been living and performing in Shanghai since 2007. He will be joined by Marc de Viviés on the gypsy guitar (France), and the amazing showman Gauthier ROUBICHOU on vocals, guitar and percussions, famous French music artist, showman, actor and organizer of Fête de la Musique Festival in China. Expect to listen to a large musical repertoire covering gypsy swing & jazz, latin music, French chansons, and crazy instrumental solos.

The Shanghai Queer Film Festival is a platform for queer cinema founded in 2016. By showcasing great queer films from all over the world, it aims to ignite discussions surrounding the diverse forms of love and queer culture. From September 21 2018, back for its second year, Shanghai Queer Film Festival will feature events and screenings of queer films from all kinds of cultural backgrounds for six days. There will be multiple events happening every day, and all events are free.

Last year’s iteration 50 galleries from 15 countries, highlights include the newly launched Insights section: a curated exhibition of museum-quality works set to tour all PHOTOFAIRS destinations. Taking place at CAMP 3399 over the weekend of September 22 and 23, this year’s JZ festival is going with the theme of ‘Jazz Cosmo,’ immersing their audience into the golden jazz age of the last century. This year’s performances will be showcased across six main stages, with tunes ranging from jazz to latin to fusion to r&b and hip-hop. The line up features artists such as The Original Gypsies (former members of the Gipsy Kings), Branford Marsalis Quartet, Tia Ray, Li Quan & JZ All Stars, Andrea Motis Quintet, The Cubop City Big Band, Jazzrausch Big Band, Richard Manetti Quartet, Lu1 Featuring Nomad Studio Session, and Matzka. In addition to the stage performances, JZ Festival has activities for all ages. Over the two days, JZ festival will be transforming the West Bund campgrounds into a vintage and swing party for old and young alike, with children under 1.3 meters getting free entry tickets. There will also be several after parties at venues across the city to keep you moving throughout the night.
