n Sunday morning, a bus driving over a bridge in the city of Chongqing suddenly veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with another vehicle before smashing through a wall and plunging into the Yangtze River.
When the bus went off the bridge, there were more than 10 people on board, police said. The accident occurred at around 10 am that morning. By 8 pm that night, authorities announced that two bodies had been recovered from the river. The rest remain unaccounted for.
At the moment, dozens of people are involved in the rescue efforts. However, the situation is extremely difficult with the bus falling into one of the deepest parts of the river, sinking down to 68 meters below the water’s surface.
It’s not clear why the bus driver veered into the wrong lane. The driver of the other vehicle is being treated at the hospital.
