Shanghai-based DJ group China Social Club is making music for your belly with the launch of a cookbook.
The Australian duo of Philip Caspar James and Matt Hildebrandt created the book as part of a food themed party on October 26 featuring recipes that range from the sophisticated to the irreverent.
According to James, the idea came about after a friend created a cookbook as a present, and the concept snowballed from there.
“Matt and I have a couple of super, simple recipes we’re always talking about, like the perfect hummus dish or a super, simple way to make coleslaw,” said James.
About 10 of their friends in and around Shanghai contributed other dishes. Hildebrandt then shot all the photos and James designed the book.
Recipes are both in English and Chinese, and they range from the basic like how to try an egg to tongue-in-cheek instructions for making a Michelin Star dish.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic home chef or a clubber whose food knowledge is limited to late-night street skewers, the cookbook is aimed at all kinds of appetites.
“Like the title of the cover says, it’s a cookbook for most mouths, so anyone can cook the recipes in there,” said James.
The cookbook is available for ¥40 a copy, not including shipping. Get in touch with China Social Club on Instagram (@chinasocialclub) or WeChat (cnsocialclub) to order.
