During the first four days of the national holiday (Monday to Thursday), Shanghai’s scenic spots welcomed a whopping 2.87 million visitors, up 32.4 percent from the same period last year.
The most popular site was, of course, The Bund, which received 1.26 million visitors. Meanwhile, Yuyuan Gardens saw 344,000 visitors and Shanghai’s museums combined for another 291,000, according to the city’s tourism bureau.
To be fair, many of these visitors were locals though 835,000 tourists are also reported to have arrived in Shanghai between Monday and Wednesday from out of town — a massive flood of people that has still managed to leave much of the city looking relatively deserted.
