Another Spring Festival holiday has drawn to a close with a weekend of railway station mayhem across China.
On Saturday, 11.1 million train trips were taken across the country as CNY travelers rushed to get back to work. That number increased to an estimated 12.52 million trips on Sunday.
Known as the world’s biggest annual human migration, nearly 3 billion trips (by rail, plane, boat, and car) were forecast for this year’s Spring Festival travel rush (Jan. 21st to March 1st). It certainly appears to be living up to expectations.
Once reunited, along with going to the movies, families across China also headed to tourist spots with a total of 415 million visits over the past week, leading to 513.9 billion yuan ($76.2 billion) in tourism revenue, an 8.2 percent over last year, according to China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Well, that sure was profitable AND fun. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!
