he world has now become a much sadder place where you’ll be seeing much less of Ning Zetao with his shirt off.
The hottie Chinese swimming star announced his retirement on Weibo today, thanking his fans and telling them, in English, that “the way to success is never easy, push yourself and DO NOT SETTLE.”
Ning catapulted himself to stardom in 2015 by winning gold in the men’s 100m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Kazan. The historic win for the Chinese nation led many to discover that Ning happens to be ridiculously good-looking resulting in numerous promotional opportunities for the young swimmer.
Some say that all of this publicity ruined Ning’s chances at a gold medal. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, he failed to qualify for the 100m freestyle final. The following year, he was kicked off the Chinese national team for signing endorsement deals with competing brands.
It’s not clear what’s next for Ning, but no matter what, we’ll always remember the good old days.
