pring comes into full bloom at GREEN & SAFE, which is offering new dishes that reflect the bounties of the season. Featuring Akihime strawberries, white asparagus, and other seasonal produce, these ingredients are incorporated into their menus at their four outlets, ranging from brunch to dessert.
Jump into the weekend with their new brunch menu, which includes the popular roast beef shakshuka (available at their Dongping and Xintiandi branches). Made with slow-cooked tomatoes, onions, vegetables, and spices, the dish is topped off with sunny-side-up eggs and thick cuts of steak for a meal that’s hearty and bursting with flavor. There’s also their chicken and waffles twist named Guilty Fried Chicken exclusive to Dongping. Crispy chicken thighs are heaped onto airy waffles and covered with guacamole, salsa, and maple syrup for a complex, savory-sweet sensation. Pair it with a glass of blood orange juice (¥32), which is made only from the freshest Tarocco blood oranges grown in Chongqing.
The triple cheese Margherita pizza (available at Dongping, Xintiandi, and Hongqiao) is another new item. Organic, vine-ripened cherry tomatoes and fragrant basil top house-made tomato paste and is finished three times over with mozzarella for a decadent pie. Exclusive to GREEN & SAFE’s Changning and Hongqiao stores is a roast USDA Choice ribeye donburi, a classic Japanese dish featuring beautifully marbled, hormone-free ribeye steak that’s marinated, chargrilled, and served on a steaming bed of rice with salad and a poached egg.
From April onwards, white asparagus will star in dishes such as a salad with edamame and soft boiled egg, as well as in a truffle spaghetti.
Capturing the end of winter’s harvest is this pancake with Akihime strawberries. Fresh berries are mixed with house-made vanilla cream and spooned onto fluffy pancakes for a dessert that combines the best of France and Japan. The new portion sizes also mean it can be enjoyed alone or shared with someone. The popular tiramisu and creme caramel also make a return. Tiramisu brings together mascarpone, fresh cream, eggs, and dark rum with Valrhona cocoa powder sprinkled over, while creme caramel is a perfectly textured creme brulee made from sugar, Italian milk, eggs, and dense cream. Both are creamy, tantalizing, and irresistible. The desserts are available at Dongping, Xintiandi, and Hongqiao.
