fter terrorizing humans for years, China’s escalator epidemic is now threatening catkind.
On Saturday, a stray cat got its hind legs stuck in an escalator inside a metro station in Xiamen. The trapped feline was noticed by one kind-hearted commuter, surnamed Zhao, who alerted subway staff about the situation.
Workers closed off the escalator and managed to free the cat before putting it into a cage. Zhao then helped to transport the animal to a vet. Having sustained serious damage to its paws and legs, the cat then underwent three hours of emergency surgery with the veterinarian managing to save its paws and some toes.
Rather than kitties, escalators in China are better known for trying to devour small children. A few years back, China experienced a terrifying string of escalator accidents which made many more inclined to take the stairs.
Last summer saw a resurgence in escalator attacks with kids nearly having their arms ripped off and narrowly escaping death while at the shopping mall.
