canoodling in the backseat of a taxi with a younger actress, igniting the biggest celebrity scandal of the year in Hong Kong.antopop superstar Sammi Cheng appears ready to forgive her husband Andy Hui after he was caught
On Thursday afternoon, Cheng broke her silence regarding the scandal, posting a bible verse onto her Instagram account which reads: “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
In the accompanying note, she writes that she and Hui have experienced many highs and lows over their decades-long relationship and five-year-long marriage. “We have walked deeper into our marriage. In addition to giving each other happiness and warmth, our marriage is also about accepting each other’s mistakes and finding forgiveness.”
She adds that at this time it’s important to “further understand the true meaning of marriage,” describing that they need to “face each other’s weaknesses” and not give up on themselves or each other, correct each, and lift each other up. “After today, I will only look forward… and continue to move forward step by step,” she concludes.

Cheng’s Instagram post follows reports that she had moved out of the couple’s Repulse Bay home after her husband’s cheating was exposed to the world. The scandal broke on Tuesday afternoon with a video showing 51-year-old singer Andy Hui hugging and kissing in the backseat of a taxi with 30-year-old TVB actress Jacqueline Wong.
The encounter followed the birthday party of a mutual friend, insurance company executive Kenneth Yang. Yang leaves the cab first and the two assure him that they are going on separately. However, once he departs, they quickly start getting cozy.
Footage of their canoodling was released online by tabloid Apple Daily after reportedly being sold by the taxi driver for around HK$1.5 million ($191,000). There are said to be two more clips that have yet to be released.
At a press conference on Tuesday evening, Hui called himself a “scumbag,” apologizing to his wife and declaring that he is disgusted with himself. He explained that had been drinking a lot that night to celebrate a friend’s birthday, but noted that being drunk was no excuse.
He went on to announce that he was taking a break from his work while trying to find his “real self.”
A singer with a career that stretches all the way back to 1986, Hui carried out a decades-long, on-again, off-again relationship with Sammi Cheng, one of the biggest Cantopop stars of the 1990s. The two finally got hitched in 2013 and have since kept things pretty low-key. They do not have any children together.
Back in 1991, they recorded a duet called “Do You Really Have Me In Your Heart?”
Adding yet more intrigue to this scandal, Jacqueline Wong, a former Miss Hong Kong runner-up, is in a relationship with 45-year-old fellow TVB actor Kenneth Ma. Wong has since apologized, declaring that she can’t face herself or her family.
While Ma is reportedly planning to break it off with Wong, he has asked that she be given some space.
