One of Shanghai’s biggest drinking events is back as Beernanza Beer Festival returns to Okura Garden Hotel from May 10 to 12 with a torrent of craft beers, cocktails, and musical acts, as well as an olympic event for bears.
The sixth edition, presented by Gouden, will see more than 150 different beers from China and around the world including returning favorites like Brooklyn Brewery, Rogue, North Coast Brewing, and Boulevard Brewing, and new entries such as Stone Brewing, Mornington Peninsula Brewery, Shanghai Brew House, and Jing A. Homegrown craft brewer Boxing Cat will also be launching their new beers.
If you’re interested in brewing your own beer, there are homebrewing classes conducted by professional brewmasters from the Shanghai Craft Beer Association.
Happening at the same time is the cocktail festival Mixnanza. Some of Shanghai’s best bartenders will be shaking and stirring up more a hundred different types of drinks. They’ll be using craft spirits and mixers such as local distillers Peddler’s Gin and Crimson Pangolin, award winning Australian brand The West Winds, and tonic producer Two Tall Brothers. At the same time, drinking platform Ask Jerry will be offering free drinks and raffle prizes.
Providing the entertainment will be 45 music groups playing at three stages. Party hard to diverse tunes such as salsa, electronic dance music, reggae, rock and roll, and country music. Also on is the Bear Olympics, where giant bears will be on stage taking part in eating and drinking contests, and ready to join you in karaoke and selfies.
