fter seeing the costume that his child was slated to wear for an upcoming kindergarten performance, a father in Gansu province was rather taken aback.
The costume included a shirt with the English word “BITCH” printed on it with the letters reversed. Thinking that this was not exactly appropriate for kids to wear for their Children’s Day performance, the dad, surnamed Wang, raised the issue on a parent-teacher WeChat group, according to a report from The Paper.
However, the teacher quickly dismissed the father’s misgiving, declaring that they couldn’t change the wardrobe for more than 200 students just because of the complaints of one parent, adding that the shirts “look nice” and are “fashionable.”
After Wang continued to complain, the teacher kicked him out of the chat group. Angry, he then shared screenshots of the conversations with his friends, leading to the incident going viral. The kindergarten was eventually forced to suspend the teacher and change the kids’ costumes.
Shirts like this one have long delighted foreigners in China where fashionistas are infamous for liking the look of English words while being blissfully ignorant of their meaning.
