woman with the Wuhan coronavirus has given birth to a baby girl who is not infected with the virus.
The 33-year-old woman gave birth via cesarean section on Monday at a hospital in Shaanxi capital of Xi’an.
Photos from the delivery room show how doctors wore additional protective clothing for the operation. The woman was transported into the room in a sealed stretcher.
Soon after being born, the infant was tested for the virus. The test came back negative. She will be tested again in a few days to confirm the result.
Currently, both mother and daughter are in stable condition, being treated in separate wards of the hospital.
This comes after an infant in Wuhan was diagnosed with the coronavirus 30 hours after being born on February 2.
The baby’s mother had tested positive for the virus before giving birth but it’s still unclear how the disease was transmitted to the child — either in the womb or after birth through contact with the mother.
