olice in Zhejiang province have launched an investigation into six overseas Chinese workers who are accused of concealing their coronavirus symptoms upon arriving back in their home country from Italy.
The six all worked at the same restaurant in the Italian city of Bergamo.
They returned to China via a flight from Milan to Moscow before transferring onto a plane to Shanghai’s Pudong airport on February 28.
Coronavirus screenings at the airport failed to catch them and they were not put under quarantine until arriving back in their home county of Qingtian in Zhejiang province.
On Tuesday, the local government there issued a notice that it had opened up a criminal case against the six for failing to report their health status.
The notice has gone viral on Weibo with netizens calling for the travelers to pay for what they have done.
“These kinds of dishonest people should have to pay for their own treatment,” wrote one Weibo user.
“Once they are out of the hospital, they should be punished severely,” said another.
