fter renting a Ferrari 458 from a dealership in the coastal city of Wenling, Zhejiang province, one woman wasted absolutely no time in totaling her new luxury car.
In CCTV footage, the red Ferrari is seen drifting and suddenly spinning out of control straight into a median road barrier and oncoming traffic. The Ferrari collides with a white SUV, pushing it over and causing it to crash into a black Nissan in the next lane.
Shortly before that crash, the driver filmed herself on her smartphone at the wheel of her new vehicle, which she had just rented for 4,500 yuan ($687) a day. While waiting at a traffic light, the woman can’t help but boast at the position she finds herself in. “This is my first time driving a Ferrari. It is truly the most incredible feeling,” she says.
The woman was not injured in the crash, but we presume she is now feeling somewhat less than incredible now. Shots from the scene of the accident show how the Ferrari’s front-end was completely mangled by the collision. Reportedly, the car costs around 4 million yuan ($611,000) and, according to the Straits Times, the cost of repairing it could be as much as 1 million yuan ($152,000).
While the woman says that she lost control of the high-performance vehicle because of the wet and slippery road, some netizens are concerned that she may also have been distracted by her phone, considering that she had just shot a video behind the wheel only a few minutes before the crash — even if she was stopped at a traffic light at the time.
Earlier this month in the Jiangsu city of Yangzhou, a man tried to bless his newly-bought BMW by burning incense on its hood, a dedication which instead ended with the 470,000 yuan ($73,000) car being reduced to nothing more than a smoldering pile of iron.
