n August 10th, a woman claimed that there was a bomb on board a plane at the Nanning Wuxu International Airport in Guangxi. However, there wasn’t actually a bomb on the plane, the woman had just booked a ticket for the wrong day and hoped to delay the flight long enough to finagle her way on board.
The woman, surnamed Na, arrived at the airport ready to catch a flight to the northeastern city of Harbin. However, things went south when she was barred from checking in at the counter with a worker explaining to her that the flight she had booked was on August 11th, not the 10th, according to a report from China’s state broadcaster CCTV.
After being told that she could not change her ticket, Na tried a different tactic, claiming that there was a bomb on the plane. Workers immediately called the police.
The 172 passengers on board the aircraft were evacuated and the plane was thoroughly searched. In the end, the airport confirmed that was no bomb on board. The search had caused the flight to be delayed by more than two hours.
When police then arrived at the counter, they found the woman throwing a tantrum on the floor while her companion attempted to console her. Eventually, Na admitted to making the false threat, telling the officers, “I only wanted to stop the plane from taking off.”
In the end, Na was placed in police detention for five days as punishment for fabricating the bomb scare and disrupting public order.
