XiamenAir flight skidded off the runway late on Thursday night after landing at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport during a heavy downpour.
The Boeing 737 passenger plane veered off the runway and onto a grassy area at around midnight last night, Philippine aviation authorities said. Passengers were then evacuated from the aircraft using the emergency chute before being taken to the terminal and given food and blankets.
There were no injuries among any of the 157 passengers or eight flight crew.
Amid a heavy downpour, the plane had been forced to abandon its first attempt at landing. On the second attempt, it was said to have “bounced.” The aircraft’s lights went out and the tower lost contact with the plane.
Philippine airport authorities are still investigating the incident.
