a massive landslide, averting what could have been a catastrophe.n alert uncle has received a 100,000 yuan reward for stopping cars on a road on the outskirts of Beijing just ahead of
Last year, An Hongsan joined a local volunteer geological disaster prevention team, patrolling the road near his village in Beijing’s western Fangshan district two or three times a day to check for signs of possible danger. On the morning of August 11th, he noticed that large rocks were started to tumble down on one stretch of road.
Quickly, An stopped more than a dozen vehicles. Ten minutes later, around 30,000 cubic meters of mud and dirt came thundering down on the roadway. Terrifying video shot by the stopped motorists shows the truly mammoth landslide.
Thanks to An, not a single person was hurt. Earlier today, he received a commendation from the local government as well as a 100,000 yuan reward. However, An insists that he didn’t really do anything heroic.
“I’m not a hero, I was just doing my job,” he said.
