arlier this month, one man promised to buy his girlfriend an ultra-expensive luxury car. Problem was that he didn’t actually have nearly that kind of money. What he did have though, was a plan and 15 yuan.
On August 16th, the man, surnamed Tang, escorted his girlfriend, surnamed Yang, and her two brothers to the dealership in Chengdu where he said he would pay 700,000 yuan ($101,000) for the car after having already made a 10,000 yuan down-payment, the Chengdu Business Daily reports.
Once at the dealership, Tang told Yang and her brothers to wait there while he went to get the cash. Tang then ran to a nearby supermarket where he bought a fruit knife for 15 yuan. With the knife in hand, he went outside, found a secluded place behind a vehicle, and began to cut up his own arms.
He then called his girlfriend, claiming that he had been robbed at knifepoint of 750,000 yuan ($109,000), believing that this story would get him out of the messy situation he had found himself in.
Instead, Yang called the cops while her brothers hurried Tang to the hospital. Upon questioning by police, Tang was forced to admit that he had fabricated the robbery because he had lied to his girlfriend, telling her that he was from an extremely wealthy when he, in fact, was not.
In the end, Tang was given 10 days detainment and fined 500 yuan. It’s not clear if Yang will be waiting for him when he gets out of jail.
