Since his restaurant Ekeko closed in June, chef Carlos Sotomayor has been not been lazing about. Instead, he has appeared at venues such as Cages over the Fifa World Cup, cooking a selection of his Peruvian food that made Ekeko a stand out.
Sotomayor is back on his feet again for two nights this week, this time at Highline, where he’s holding a pop up showcasing the Japanese influences on Peruvian cuisine. Dinner is a six-course meal that includes tuna and sea urchin tiradito, a salmon and lump crab ceviche called causaki, seared foie gras and chicken skin with nori and eel sauce, crispy wagyu nigiri, a brown rice bowl with soy braised pork belly and egg, and a sesame cake with chocolate and yuzu.
Dinner costs ¥398 and you can book by calling the restaurant. We miss Ekeko dearly, so here’s to this being another step in Sotomayor’s quest to find a permanent space for his concept.
