A clean and healthy home awaits with this French housekeeping service

Domestic help can be trained to be efficient and health-aware with Minute Care and Briochin

We constantly worry about the pollution in the air and water, but have you given any thought to the pollution in your home? A large part of this comes from the chemical ingredients in cleaning products, and when coupled with their extensive use by hired domestic help, can lead to a sickly household. But this French-style housekeeping service wants to change that. Minute Care (formerly known as Under Care) trains domestic workers on the availability of healthier cleaning products such as the French brand Briochin and how to use them. We talk to Arthur Puissant and Olivier Stauff about how they achieve this.

Tell us about Minute Care and Briochin.

Arthur: Since 2010, Minute Care has been training housekeepers in France. More than 3,500 housekeepers have joined one of our programs, and these professionals now spend more than 150,000 hours a year cleaning, ironing, or cooking for our customers. We’ve been in Shanghai since 2017, and we have two options for our customers: either providing them with an experienced and “Minute Care-certified” ayi, or to directly train their ayi in our programs.

Olivier: Briochin started in 1919 with the linseed soap solid detergent. This product quickly became popular especially among factories and hospitals as it cleaned thoroughly while respecting the health of workers and patients. The principle of ‘simple and natural rather than complicated and chemical’ has been our motto since then, and we never compromise on this. Our product range covers all needs, from kitchen to bathroom, and also floor and laundry. We use traditional recipes with natural ingredients such as Marseille soap, bicarbonate, or linseed oil soap.

Why did you bring this service in China?

A: The objective of Minute Care is to empower our key partners: the ayis. Upon arrival in China, I discovered that although ayis are motivated and want to do well, they are often not trained and thus are not very highly regarded. This observation propelled me to implement our well-established experience and expertise in the industry in order to offer a good service to our local clients. We’ve developed a Housekeeper Guide that consists of a rigorous and precise methodology covering aspects from time organization to the right and healthy way of using cleaning products.

    A: Minute Care

O: Having lived in China for 15 years, I became increasingly aware of my Chinese friends having higher expectations in regards to the quality of their environment, particularly the safety of the products being used. In many aspects, they are even more knowledgeable and demanding than our French customers. Our traditional Briochin products are ECOCERT certified (a European natural origin certification) and they reduce pollution in house, compared to chemical detergents.

You’ll be sharing a booth at the upcoming Expat Show. Why?

A: In our service, a major point is to educate our ayis about the use of natural and healthy cleaning products. For instance we recommend the use of Marseille soap to degrease, clean, and gloss a wooden floor in a very efficient and much healthier way than with standard chemical products. Briochin, a brand we’ve known for a while in France, is the obvious partner for us.

O: Taking care of your home requires not only using the right product, but also using them the right way, which requires rigorous and professional work. With Minute Care-trained employees, we know that our products will be used the correct way.

O: While our detergents are premium quality products, we are using simple and concentrated formulas, making the use of our products quite inexpensive in regards to their performance. For instance, our 500-millimeter hand and dish washing soap offers 220 doses, and the new version of our three-liter laundry detergent will allow for up to 60 washes. Our black soap has also been voted best cleaning product by French consumer report UFC Que Choisir and our kitchen cleaner has been a best seller for years to professional kitchens thanks to its degreasing performance.

A: A 70-square-meter apartment doesn’t need a three-hour daily clean from an ayi. Instead, rigorous and detailed work twice a week will be more effective. Our strategy is to work efficiently and in a shorter time period, with less paid hours.
