American steak restaurant Texas Roadhouse will be opening their first Shanghai outlet at the end of this month, joining a growing roster of US food chains attempting to gain a foothold in the city’s dining landscape.
The steakhouse, which opens at Century Link Mall in Pudong on September 27, will offer their signature hand-cut steaks here. The meat is flown in from the US and kept at a constant temperature of four degrees Celsius throughout the journey, and they have different cuts including Ft. Worth ribeye, USDA Choice sirloin, New York strip, and Dallas filet.
Also on the menu is the restaurant’s popular tender pork ribs with homemade barbecue sauce, as well as Mid-Western dishes and unlimited peanuts and fresh bread.
How well Texas Roadhouse does in Shanghai remains to be seen. American restaurant chains such as PF Chang’s, The Cheesecake Factory, and Taco Bell have recently established a presence here, while Red Lobster and Shake Shack are opening soon. But this year also saw the closures of Hard Rock Cafe and Outback Steakhouse.
Despite its name, Texas Roadhouse was actually founded in Indiana in 1993. The chain currently boasts over 540 stores worldwide in places like Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
