uangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Anhui province is one of China’s most majestic natural wonders, though its natural splendor is somewhat spoiled during the annual Golden Week travel rush, as tens of thousands of tourists have recently discovered.
Photos and videos have gone viral online showing travelers visiting the scenic mountain in the first few days of the national holiday, standing in a mind-boggling entrance line before also finding themselves in hellish queues while climbing up the mountain.
In order to combat overcrowding, Huangshan management has set a limit of 30,000 visitors per day from Monday to Wednesday and 50,000 per day from Thursday to Sunday. On Tuesday, the scenic spot stopped selling tickets at 11:00 am, suggesting that tourists come another day.
Meanwhile, conditions at the Great Wall ain’t much better.
