pair of foreigners have got themselves into trouble with the police in Shenzhen after posting some vile, racist insults in a local WeChat group, including one taunt referencing the Nanjing Massacre.
According to screencaps posted online, the exchange appears to start with discussion about the “diss track” recorded by Chinese rapper Pissy regarding last month’s Sweden-China diplomatic spat over a Chinese family that was thrown out of a Stockholm hostel by police. One of the foreigners refers to Pissy as a “chink,” later writing “only chinks kneel” and calling all Chinese cowards among other immature insults directed at a Chinese WeChat user named “Master Gao.”
When Gao fails to promptly respond to one taunt, one of the foreigners writes: “Why so quiet? Nanjing was also over quickly.”
This exchange occurred in a WeChat group of 88 people created by a Shenzhen restaurant for regular patrons. Afterward, Gao posted the screencaps to Chinese social media, igniting outrage across the country.
Another Chinese WeChat user told Modern Express that when he posted the screenshots to his Moments page he was harassed by one of the foreigners who used offensive language and even threatened his personal safety by circulating his home address.
Responding to the online outrage, Shenzhen police have announced that they have launched an investigation. It’s not clear what sort of punishments the foreigners could face. Earlier this year, China adopted a new law which bans the defamation of the country’s heroes and martyrs.
At least one of the foreigners has reportedly worked as an English teacher in the past.
