A frightening video has popped up on the Chinese internet showing a thuggish man telling a taxi driver to kneel down on the street or be stabbed to death.
The cab driver’s fault was apparently driving in the correction direction down a one-way street while the man drove his van in the wrong direction, bringing traffic to a halt. In video filmed by a passerby, the man is seen kicking into the cab driver’s window and threatening that he will stab the driver to death if he does not get out of the vehicle by the count of three.
The driver ends up complying with the man’s demands and kneels down on the street, apparently apologizing for driving in the correct direction. Though a large crowd gathers around to watch the events, no one seems to step forward to intervene.
Since the video was published online, police in Liaoning’s Chaoyang city have confirmed that they have detained the man.
In some ways, the episode calls to mind an infamous road rage incident which took place in August in the Jiangsu city of Kunshan where a BMW driver attacked a cyclist after bumping into his electric bike, only to end up being stabbed to death with his own knife by the cyclist.
Local police ruled that the cyclist had acted in self-defense and would not be charged with any crime in a decision cheered across Chinese social media.
