howing once again why dogs are more loyal than humans can ever hope to be, a poor pup in the Inner Mongolian capital of Hohhot has touched hearts around China by sitting in the middle of the street for the past 80 days, awaiting the return of its owner who tragically died in a car crash.
The dog can be found sitting next to a guardrail in the middle of a busy downtown road, dangerously close to traffic. It’s been there since August 21st, the day its owner passed away following an accident on the street. Since then, locals have brought it food and water to keep it from wasting away.
Online, the dog’s incredible loyalty has been compared to that of Hachiko, a Japanese Akita dog that famously continued to wait for its owner at the train station for more than nine years following his death in the 1920s.
A volunteer from a local charity told reporters that they are in the process of reaching out to the dog owner’s relatives. If they aren’t able to make contact, they have promised to find the dog a new home.
Earlier this month, another sad story went viral on Chinese social media about a dog in Xi’an that had stopped eating completely for more than a week after its companion was run over by a car.
