n a vivid illustration of just how bad the air has been this week in China, a local elderly couple recently found themselves lost among the sea of smog smothering downtown Nanjing.
The couple had gone out to buy some vegetables at around 9 am on Tuesday morning, but soon lost their way in their own neighborhood, unable to tell one hazy building from the next. They wandered around the area until 6 pm that evening when a helpful passerby called the police.
Officers were then able to get in touch with the couple’s daughter who escorted her parents safely back home.
Earlier this week, heavy smog and fog in eastern China caused roads to be closed, flights to be canceled, and residents to be warned to limit the time they spend outdoors. For a bird’s eye view of the muck that this couple got lost in, check out the video below:
This isn’t the first time that someone has lost their way in among all the PM 2.5 particulates in China’s sky. Back in 2015, an Anhui woman went to visit relatives one smoggy December morning and ended up getting lost for an entire day. Two years later, a girl on her way to school in Beijing got lost in an airpocalypse and was eventually forced to ask some police officers for directions.
