Thailand seafood producer has partnered with Alibaba to launch a premium seafood store in Shanghai last month.
Bangkok-based Thai Union Group announced in its 2018 third-quarter report that they opened The Lobster Lab at one of the Chinese conglomerate’s Hema supermarkets in November.
Based on Thai Union’s King Oscar brand, the dine-in and takeout restaurant serves fresh lobsters from the United States and Canada to meet “the growing Chinese consumer’s demand for tasty and nutritious seafood.”
The restaurant’s signature item is their lobster roll in a brioche bun. Diners can choose between three kinds of sauces – the garlic and green chili, Sriracha mayo, or lemon butter – and opt for a set meal with French fries or salad and a drink.
Other dishes include steamed or grilled lobster, lobster cheese fries, lobster chowder, and lobster mac and cheese. Shrimp and salmon rolls also feature.
The Lobster Lab first opened in Bangkok and is part of Thammachart Seafood Retail, a company Thai Union acquired a 25 percent stake in this year. Thai Union said the investment was in line with its “focus in the high-growth market in Asia.”
Thai Union also owns American seafood restaurant chain Red Lobster, and plans to open a branch in Shanghai’s IFC Mall soon.
