A safety drill at a Chongqing kindergarten didn’t quite go as planned recently with a security guard who was playing the role of a knife-wielding madman being viciously kicked to the curb by a vigilante passerby.
In video from the scene, the masked “madman” is seen charging at the gates of the kindergarten, waving around a large cleaver in one hand. Whistles are blown, signaling the children to run back inside to the safety of the school. Meanwhile, a security guard and teachers fend the guy off with long poles.
However, things go a bit off script when a random passerby charges the “madman” from behind and kicks him hard in the back, sending him straight to the sidewalk. Fortunately, the actor didn’t suffer any injuries.
Safety drills like these have become a scary reality across China thanks to a wave of knife attacks at primary schools and kindergartens in the country that dates back to the beginning of this decade. In October, 14 children were injured after a woman went on a stabbing spree on the grounds of another kindergarten in Chongqing.
