afety checks are now being carried out at a Shanghai shopping mall following the tragic death of a 6-year-old girl over the weekend.
The girl was with her mom inside a shop called the “I.T Outlet” in the Foxtown Mall, located inside the Feizhou International Building on Lingling Road near Shanghai Stadium, when a dressing mirror weighing at least 50 kilograms fell on top of her. The girl’s pregnant mother saw the mirror topple over, but wasn’t quick enough to save her child.
After being rushed to the hospital, the girl was declared dead from a severe head injury.
The investigation into the 6-year-old’s death centers on whether or not the mirror was secured to the wall. Reportedly, it was simply leaning against the wall, though this has not yet been confirmed by police.
The I.T Outlet has been suspended while the investigation is ongoing. The company is reportedly negotiating compensation with the girl’s family. Meanwhile, the Foxtown Mall is conducting security checks, removing any unsecured mirrors.
