ith the arrest of its chief financial officer in Canada, Huawei is going through some rough times at the moment, but there are at least some local businesses that have the company’s back.
A tech company in Zhejiang province has been making headlines recently thanks to a leaked internal notice that went out earlier this month, informing employees of its policy rewarding workers for buying Huawei and punishing those who have bought Apple.
According to the notice, employees with iPhones will be banned from getting a promotion. Meanwhile, those who buy a new Huawei phone will receive a rebate off its price — 50 percent for executives, 25 percent for managers, and 20 percent for regular employees.
The nationalistic Global Times tabloid spoke with a manager from the company, the Zhejiang Kangjiesi New Material Technology Co from the city of Zhuji, who said that the new pro-Huawei policy was very successful, claiming: “So far, all members of the management team have changed their smartphones to Huawei models to show support for homegrown brands.”
The manager claimed that the shift was “based on voluntary decisions.”
Meanwhile, the state media outlet also interviewed an employee who estimated that about half of the company’s 150 employees had switched over to Huawei. “A lot of our colleagues used iPhones before, but I know many of them have bought new smartphones from Huawei,” the employee said.
