roviding evidence for the stereotype that all Chinese people know kung fu, a pair of Chinese tourists recently utilized their martial arts skills to foil the plans of some Russian thieves in St. Petersburg.
The tourists were part of a group of 30 Chinese travelers who arrived at the city’s train station at 5:00 am on the morning of December 20th only to be taken by surprise by a trio of thieves who stole a bag from one of the visitors and rushed off, according to a Beijing News report.
The thieves did not get far however as one of the tourists, Zhu Chuan from Shangdong province, managed to catch up with them and tackle the one with the bag. A struggle ensued which saw one of the thieves reaching into his pocket for a weapon only to be subdued by another tourist, Zhao Wenyong, a police officer also from Shandong.
Using “Chinese kung fu,” the pair of tourists then fought off the robbers. The tour guide later told reporters that this was the first time that he had ever witnessed someone snatching back belongings from robbers.
