earts have gone out across China to a young toll booth worker in Guizhou province who wiped away her tears and put on a smile for commuters despite the abuse that she received from some of them.
On January 25th, the 19-year-old toll collector, named Weng Xin, temporarily left her post in order to help push away a broken down vehicle that was blocking the lane. Other drivers were unaware of the problem, only knowing that they had been left waiting too long in line. Some of them angrily blamed Weng for the delay.
In heartbreaking surveillance footage from inside the toll booth that really makes you want to give the girl a hug, Weng can be seen crying but wiping away her tears as the next car pulls up, putting on a fake smile for the driver.
Since the video went viral, many netizens have sent out words of encouragement to Weng, calling her the “most dedicated toll collector.” In response, Weng thanked net users, but humbly refused that title. “I am just an ordinary toll collector. Thank you all very much for your support and comfort,” she said.
