hile Shanghai may have survived Chinese New Year night relatively unscathed, make sure to spare a thought for over-worked street cleaners in other cities around the country.
Unlike Shanghai, the Sichuan city of Yibin has no ban on firecrackers and many residents went off to a local park on Monday night to ring in the Year of the Pig by setting things on fire and blowing stuff up. Afterward, the park was left littered with debris, as well as bottles, cigarette butts, and food boxes.

Of course, this is all nothing more than a mild mess compared with the chaotic days of years past. Back in 2014, workers in Beijing collected a whopping 41.75 tonnes of fireworks-related garbage following Chinese New Year celebrations.
