he ancient Chinese warrior/god Guan Yu has been given a futuristic makeover by a Hubei scenic spot, much to the befuddlement of tourists.
In footage posted online by Pear Video, a tour guide is seen introducing his group to the unusual representation of the famous Three Kingdoms era figure, which is equipped in full Transformers armor, directing the visitors to bow and pray to the statue as they would normally to the revered god of war and wealth.
Looking bewildered and bemused, the tourists do as they are told.
The location of the statue is in the city of Chibi which specializes in Three Kingdoms tourism as the site of the Battle of Red Cliffs, one of the most famous battles in Chinese history. More than 1,000 years later, both the battle and Guan Yu were immortalized in the legendary novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
The book helped to turn Guan Yu into a god, worshipped through statues in temples across the Chinese-speaking world, though, typically, he looks a bit more impressive and intimidating.
