xperience the space epic that started it all in concert at a screening of “Star Wars: A New Hope” with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra playing the movie’s soundtrack in Shanghai on March 8.
Led by conductor Nayden Todorov, the Bulgarian orchestra will be performing at Shanghai Oriental Art Center together with the original Star Wars film, which will be played simultaneously on a massive screen.
Released in 1977, the music for “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” was composed by John Williams and won six awards at the 50th Academy Awards in 1978, including Best Original Score. It also captured Best Score at the 35th Golden Globe Awards that same year and walked away with Best Score at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in 1979. Williams’ soundtrack also picked up a Grammy Award for Best Album of Original Score for a Motion Picture or Television Program.
Star Wars: In Concert is part of a series of live music performances set to screenings of Star Wars movies. It was first performed in 2009 and has toured over 14 countries since 2017.
Shanghai is the first mainland leg of the concert, before moving on to Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
