dusty road on the outskirts of Xi’an may be one of the most well-lit in all of China thanks to the efforts of opportunistic villagers.
This week, netizens posted photos online of the strange road which is said to stretch out for about three kilometers and include more than 1,000 street lights. One 500-meter segment alone is bordered by a whopping 200 streetlights. Typically, street lights are placed from 30 to 50 meters apart.
The road is located in Taojia village part of the Xi’an International Trade & Logistics Park. According to one local, the area, which mostly consists of fields is set to be bulldozed over. Knowing this, villagers are said to have put up the street lights to increase the amount of compensation that they will receive from the government.
