head of her first face-to-face meeting with a man that she met online, a cautious young woman decided to put the local police to the test in case the encounter should go very, very wrong.
On Saturday night, police in the Heilongjiang city of Tieli received a call from a woman in apparent distress, saying that she was about to be raped by a man and that they should come quickly to her residential community. The call ended with a scream.
The woman didn’t mention her exact address, so police quickly began conducting a door-to-door search of the community’s apartment buildings. That search was unsuccessful. However, the woman eventually phoned again, claiming that there was really no problem and that she had just been angry with her boyfriend.
Believing that the woman may have been forced into saying this, the police continued their investigation and tracked down the caller who finally confessed to making the whole thing up to see how quickly the police would respond.
For her fraudulent emergency call, the woman has been “punished according to the law,” though it’s not clear what exactly this means.
