pet owner recently watched and even filmed as her dog drowned to death. The tragic, senseless, and infuriating incident occurred on Tuesday at a pet shop in the Fujian city of Quanzhou which boasts a small pool where owners can bring their dogs for a swim.
In surveillance footage, a worker is seen placing a French bulldog into the pool and stepping away. As the animal starts to frantically splash around in the water, obviously unable to swim, the owner takes out her phone and films the scene, apparently believing that her pet is simply doggy paddling.
Meanwhile, the worker looks on but makes no move to pull the dog out until it sinks to the bottom of the pool after about 25 seconds of struggling. The animal continues moving but it takes the worker another 15 seconds to react to the situation and use a pipe to fish the dog out. By that time, it had stopped moving.
You can watch footage from both the shop’s surveillance camera and the owner’s cell phone below. Viewer discretion is advised:
According to the pet store, the animal was quickly taken to a nearby vet, but they were unable to revive it.
The store has taken full responsibility for what happened and is negotiating compensation with the dog owner, blaming the animal’s death on the worker who was “in a state of shock” and did not react properly to the incident.
