he latest installment in the Avengers franchise has received quite the reception in China, particularly from one university student in the city of Ningbo.
The 21-year-old woman named Xiaoli was so moved by the movie that by the end of it she was sobbing uncontrollably. Soon, she started to show symptoms of hyperventilation, her chest stuffed up and she had difficulty breathing. Meanwhile, her hands and feet became numb to the point that she could not stretch out her fingers.
She was taken from the cinema to the hospital where doctors put an oxygen mask on her to help calm her down.
Avengers: Endgame opened at midnight on Wednesday in China. Over the following 24 hours, it made a record-shattering 719 million yuan ($107 million). It’s early yet, but the movie has the chance to become the highest-grossing film all-time at the Chinese box office. It’s predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War, currently ranks 9th after making 2.391 million yuan in China ($354 million).
