he second-highest grossing movie of all-time in China is now available to watch on Netflix. We thought we’d tell you since Netflix evidently isn’t interested in doing so.
The Wandering Earth started streaming on Netflix this past weekend, however, it wasn’t included on the service’s list of May releases, meaning that no one was actually aware of that fact until they did a bit of browsing.
It’s unclear why the release of the Chinese sci-fi blockbuster was so low-key. Back in February, Netflix announced that it had secured the film’s international streaming rights for an undisclosed sum without revealing when the movie would be hitting the streaming service.
Based on a novella of the same name by Hugo-winning author Liu Cixin, The Wandering Earth was a mega-hit over the Spring Festival holiday earlier this week. It has grossed 4.65 billion yuan ($690 million) at China’s box office — good for second all-time, though it isn’t likely to hold on to that position for long with Avengers: Endgame closing in.
