woman in Sichuan province has claimed that her cat just might be the world’s cutest early earthquake detector.
The woman says that she was woken up at around 5:52 am on Sunday morning by her kitty trampling on her and acting erratically. This was about an hour earlier than her pet typically wakes her up, meowing to be let outside.
In this case, however, the woman couldn’t figure out what her cat was continually going on about, though it seemed to want its owner to go outside.
Then, at 6:42 am, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the woman’s home in Weiyuan county. While neither she nor her cat were hurt, the quake caused 122 houses to collapse along with 63 injuries and one death.
There is lots of anecdotal evidence of animals being able to sense earthquakes before they happen, but this kind of thing is typically noticed 10 seconds before the quake strikes, rather than 50 minutes.
In view of this, Chinese netizens have recommended that the feline start work at the China Earthquake Administration.
