n a sign of return to normalcy in China, students have been allowed to head back to some high schools in Qinghai province.
A total of 144 senior high schools and secondary vocational schools reopened on Monday in Qinghai following an extended Spring Festival break caused by the coronavirus.
While other school systems in China have switched to online learning for the time being, Qinghai has become the first to reopen physical schools.
The relatively less-populated province, located in China’s northwest, was barely hit by the Covid-19 outbreak, reporting a total of just 18 confirmed cases. All patients recovered and were discharged from the hospital by the end of February.
No new confirmed cases have been reported in Qinghai for the last 32 days.
Still, officials aren’t taking any chances with sanitation and disinfection procedures going into place at all schools while masks are mandatory for all students and faculty.
It remains to be seen when other school systems around China will also reopen. Shanghai’s schools remain closed indefinitely, though at least parts of the Disney Resort have opened back up.
