Fresh from his trip to the wetlands of Hangzhou, where he made a joke, Xi Jinping returned to nature on Friday, planting trees in Beijing.
The tree-planting activity is an annual event each year where Xi and other members of China’s all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee grab shovels, don jackets, and go out to make a bit of a greener place.
This time around, they also wore face masks for the occasion.
Xi always marks the event with a speech on the importance of reforestation, environmental awareness, and loving nature.
The Chinese leader himself has planted numerous trees during his time in power. One of the trees he planted in Henan province even became something of a pilgrimage spot for Chinese officials.
